Virtual number for Discord
Discord accounts are created with an email address, but the platform asks for phone verification in several common situations — when its anti-spam system flags an account or when a server requires a verified phone as a security level. A virtual number receives that SMS code online, without tying the account to your personal SIM.
When Discord asks for phone verification
- Anti-spam checks. New accounts that trip automated protection — for example by joining many servers quickly — must verify a phone to continue.
- Server security levels. Admins can set a server to admit only members with a verified phone on their account.
- Suspicious sign-ins. Logging in from an unfamiliar location or device can trigger a phone check.
- Account changes. Some sensitive actions, like enabling certain security settings, may ask for a verified number.
How to verify Discord with a virtual number
The SMS code appears in your VirtualSIM dashboard, usually within a minute.
- 01Choose the country of the number — for example a US number.
- 02Select Discord as the target service in VirtualSIM and pay for the activation.
- 03Enter the number in the Discord verification prompt and request the code.
- 04Wait for the SMS in the VirtualSIM dashboard and enter the code in Discord.
- 05Remember that a phone number can be linked to only one Discord account at a time.
One number — one account
Discord ties a phone number to a single account. If you receive a number that was previously linked elsewhere — which occasionally happens with recycled ranges — Discord will refuse it; simply release the number and take another one. You can also remove or replace the phone later in User Settings, though access to servers that require a verified phone pauses until a new number is linked.
Is using a virtual number allowed?
Phone verification exists to fight spam and bots, and Discord evaluates accounts mainly by behavior. Using a virtual number for privacy is common practice, and the legal side is covered in our guide on whether virtual numbers are legal. What matters in practice: an account that behaves like a normal user runs into no issues, while a number range previously abused for spam may simply be rejected at verification.

Frequently asked questions
Is a phone number mandatory for Discord?
Not for basic sign-up — an email address is enough. A phone becomes necessary when the anti-spam system flags the account or when a server you want to join requires a verified phone as its security level.
Why does a server ask me to verify my phone before joining?
That is the server’s verification level, chosen by its admins to keep bots and spam accounts out. It is a server-side requirement, not a problem with your account.
What if Discord says the number is already registered?
The number is still linked to another Discord account — typical for recycled number ranges. Release the number in VirtualSIM (undelivered SMS are not charged) and take a fresh one.
Can I remove the phone number from my Discord account later?
Yes, in User Settings. Keep in mind that servers requiring a verified phone will restrict your access until a new number is linked and verified.
