Virtual number for Telegram

Telegram requires a phone number for sign-up, but it does not have to be your personal one. A virtual number receives the Telegram SMS code online, so you can create a separate account for work, a channel admin profile, or simply keep your real number private.

Why people use a virtual number for Telegram

  • Privacy. Your personal number stays hidden from contacts, group members and anyone who finds you by number.
  • Second account. Telegram allows multiple accounts, but each needs its own number — a virtual number solves that in minutes.
  • Separation of work and personal life. A dedicated number for a business account, a channel or a bot you administer.
  • Relocation or travel. Get a number from a specific country without buying a local SIM card.

How to activate Telegram with a virtual number

The whole process takes a few minutes. The SMS with the code appears in your VirtualSIM dashboard — no SIM card or phone needed.

  1. 01Choose the country of the number — for example a US number or a German number.
  2. 02Select Telegram as the target service and pay for the activation.
  3. 03Copy the number and paste it into the Telegram sign-up form.
  4. 04Wait for the SMS code in your VirtualSIM dashboard and enter it in Telegram.
  5. 05Set up two-factor authentication with a password so the account stays yours even after the number expires.

One-time activation or number rental?

For a single registration, a one-time number is usually enough: you receive one SMS and the number is released. If you plan to log in again on new devices or expect future verification codes, consider renting the number for a longer period — Telegram occasionally asks to re-verify.

If the Telegram code does not arrive

Occasionally Telegram delays or blocks delivery to certain number ranges. First wait 1–2 minutes, then use the “send via SMS again” option in Telegram. If the code still does not arrive, release the number — you are not charged for undelivered SMS — and try a number from a different country. Our troubleshooting guide covers other causes in detail.

Frequently asked questions

Can Telegram ban an account registered with a virtual number?

Registration with a virtual number is not against Telegram rules by itself. Bans usually happen because of spam-like behavior after sign-up, not because of the number type. Enable two-factor authentication right after registration to protect the account.

Will I be able to log in again after the number expires?

Yes, as long as you stay logged in on at least one device and set a 2FA password. Without an active session and without access to the number, restoring the account can be difficult — that is why we recommend the 2FA step.

Which country should I choose for Telegram?

Telegram accepts numbers from most countries. A US number is a common choice; numbers from Germany, the UK and other European countries work as well. If one country fails, simply try another.

Can I create several Telegram accounts?

Yes. Each account requires a unique number, so you simply activate one virtual number per account. The Telegram app lets you switch between accounts.

Do I need to install anything to receive the SMS?

No. The code appears in your VirtualSIM dashboard in the browser. You only need the Telegram app (or web version) to complete the registration.
