Virtual number for WhatsApp

WhatsApp verifies every account with a 6-digit code sent by SMS or an automated voice call, so a working number is mandatory at sign-up. A virtual number receives that code online, letting you register a second profile or a WhatsApp Business line without exposing your personal SIM.

Why register WhatsApp with a virtual number

  • Privacy. Your personal number stays out of the profile — contacts and chat partners only ever see the virtual one.
  • Second account or business line. WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business are separate apps, and each registration needs its own number.
  • International presence. A local number from the country where your customers or partners are — for example a US number.
  • No spare SIM or phone. The code arrives in your browser, so no second device is needed.

How to activate WhatsApp with a virtual number

Activation usually takes just a few minutes. The SMS with the code appears in your VirtualSIM dashboard.

  1. 01Choose the country of the number — for example a US or UK number.
  2. 02Select WhatsApp as the target service in VirtualSIM and pay for the activation.
  3. 03Copy the number, paste it into WhatsApp and check that the country code matches.
  4. 04Wait for the SMS with the 6-digit code in the VirtualSIM dashboard and enter it in WhatsApp.
  5. 05If the SMS does not arrive, use the “Call me” option in WhatsApp after the countdown — an automated call reads the code aloud.
  6. 06Enable two-step verification (Settings → Account → Two-step verification) with a PIN so the account stays under your control.

WhatsApp Business on a virtual number

The WhatsApp Business app registers separately from the regular app and is built for customer chats, product catalogs and quick replies. A virtual number fits this scenario well: the business line stays independent from your personal phone, and you can pick a number from the country where most of your customers are.

Keep in mind that one number can be active in only one of the two apps at a time — registering a number in WhatsApp Business removes it from the regular WhatsApp app, and vice versa.

If the WhatsApp code does not arrive

First check that the country code and number are entered correctly, then wait a minute and tap “Resend SMS” or request a voice call. WhatsApp sometimes throttles delivery to certain number ranges; if nothing arrives within a few minutes, release the number — you are not charged for undelivered SMS — and take a number from another country. Other common causes are covered in our troubleshooting guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can WhatsApp be verified by voice call instead of SMS?

Yes. If the SMS does not arrive, WhatsApp offers a “Call me” option after a short countdown, and an automated call reads the code aloud. Whether the call reaches a given virtual number depends on the number range, so SMS remains the more reliable default.

Will my contacts see that I registered with a virtual number?

WhatsApp identifies accounts purely by number. People who saved your virtual number will see the account; your personal number is never revealed unless you share it yourself.

Can one number work in both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business?

No. A number can be registered in only one of the two apps at a time. Registering it in WhatsApp Business logs it out of the regular app, so use a separate virtual number for each.

Can I move an existing WhatsApp account to a virtual number?

Yes, through Settings → Account → Change number. The new number must be able to receive the confirmation SMS at that moment, which a one-time virtual number can do.

Does WhatsApp ban accounts on virtual numbers?

The number type alone is not a ban reason — restrictions usually follow spam complaints or bulk messaging. Occasionally a recycled number turns out to be already registered; in that case simply release it and take another one.
