Virtual US phone number

American phone numbers use the country code +1, which the United States shares with Canada and other members of the North American Numbering Plan. A US number is the safest default for online registration: almost every global service — from messengers to Google — accepts +1 numbers without extra restrictions.

US number facts

Unlike in most of Europe, US mobile and landline numbers look identical — there is no separate mobile prefix. Every number consists of a three-digit area code and a seven-digit subscriber number.

What a US virtual number is used for

  • Messengers. Registering Telegram, WhatsApp and other apps — a US number for Telegram is one of the most reliable options.
  • Google services. Gmail, YouTube and Google account verification, where +1 numbers rarely face restrictions.
  • US-region accounts. App stores, streaming platforms and marketplaces that expect an American number.
  • Privacy. Keeping your personal number off databases, classifieds and sign-up forms.

  2. 02Select the service you want to verify — for example Telegram, WhatsApp or Google.
  3. 03Pay for a one-time activation or a rental and copy the issued +1 number.

  5. 05Wait for the SMS in your VirtualSIM dashboard and confirm the registration.

Things to know about US numbers

Because the US and Canada share the +1 code, some forms list them together as “US/Canada” — either number usually works. A small number of strict services (mostly banks) reject virtual numbers of any country, and US numbers are no exception. For everyday apps and messengers, though, +1 remains the most widely accepted option.

Frequently asked questions

Is a US number good for WhatsApp?

Yes. WhatsApp reliably sends codes to +1 numbers, and American numbers rarely end up on blocklists. See our detailed guide on WhatsApp verification with a US number.

Why do US and Canadian numbers both start with +1?

Both countries belong to the North American Numbering Plan (NANP), a shared system created in 1947. They use the same country code and the same 10-digit format; only the area code tells them apart.

Can I receive calls on a virtual US number?

Virtual numbers for activation are designed for receiving SMS, not voice calls. Most services send verification codes by text, so this is enough for registration.

Are virtual US numbers legal?

Yes. Using a virtual number to receive SMS is legal in the US and most other countries, as long as you do not use it for fraud. We cover the details in our legality guide.

What if the SMS code does not arrive on a US number?

Wait 1–2 minutes and request the code again. If it still does not arrive, release the number — undelivered SMS are not charged — and try another number. Persistent issues are covered in our troubleshooting guide.
